Global Cash Access, Inc., a leading supplier of cash access systems and marketing services to the gaming industry, today announced financial results for the quarter and six months ended June 30, 2005.

For the quarter, total revenues were $112.5 million, an increase of 15.1% from $97.7 million recorded in the second quarter of fiscal 2004. Operating income was $21.0 million in the second quarter of 2005, an increase of 40.2% over the same period in 2004.

On his first trip ever to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel, Michael Shea of Waxhaw signed up for a Total Rewards card and won a 12-pack of Coca Cola for taking part in the “Winning Will Find You” customer promotion.

Little did Shea know, but his 12-pack had more than Coke in it.

Working At A Casino

Workers at Missouri's 11 casinos have much higher job satisfaction and higher expectations regarding pay and promotions than the general population, according to a recent survey conducted for the Missouri Riverboat Gaming Association ( MRGA ).

More than 4,000 Missouri casino employees participated in the survey, which was conducted first quarter 2005.

"Missouri casinos have created very attractive and lucrative career paths for our employees," said Troy Stremming.

Trump selects CEO for casinos

A former Tropicana executive will return to Atlantic City as the new CEO of Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. James B. Perry will succeed Donald J. Trump, who remains chairman and largest stockholder of the corporation.

"In my search for a chief executive officer resulted in a highly competitive process in which many outstanding candidates were considered," Trump said Wednesday.

"I'm happy to select Jim. He is perfect for our company, a company which has a chance to be truly outstanding," he continued.

World Series of Poker

Actress Jennifer Tilly won the Ladies no-limit Texas Hold 'Em event at the World Series of Poker - the first time a celebrity has won an event at the famous tournament.

Tilly's skilful play and admitted good luck earned her $158,625 US. She beat 600 players to capture first place in a two-day event featuring some of the top female professionals in the world. "I think she showed an incredible amount of talent," tournament media director Nolan Dalla said. "She had an enormous chip lead and never looked back. It was almost as though her victory was never in question."

Tyson vs. McBride

Promoter Rock Newman feels Mike Tyson is reaching a pivotal moment toward the end of his boxing career.

If Tyson can beat Kevin McBride on Saturday night, he could be on track to fight again for the heavyweight championship. But a loss, Newman said, could mean Tyson's career would be effectively over.

"I think that Mike Tyson, at 38 years of age, has gotten to a place where he understands it's his final chance," Newman said.

BMW News

BMW sold over half a million cars in the first five months of this year after group sales rose 7.5 per cent to 113,626 in May, the world's largest luxury carmaker said yesterday.

Sales of its core BMW brand rose 6.4 per cent to 96,061 units last month, while Mini sales rose 14.2 per cent to 17,511 cars. BMW also delivered 54 Rolls-Royce Phantoms, down 15.6 per cent versus May 2004.

For the first five months, group car sales increased 8.4 per cent to 517,184 units, led by solid demand for new BMW models such as the X3 mid-size offroader and the 1-Series hatchback.

Boxing World

From WBC President Jose Sulaiman: “The World Boxing Council has decided to withdraw recognition of super welterweight world champion Francisco Javier Castillejo with more than two-thirds of the votes of the Board of Governors.

Castillejo did not comply with his obligation to fight mandatory challenger Ricardo Mayorga and signed a contract to fight another boxer, violating the WBC commitment that he, as champion, had to comply with.
