Despite being a new building, just 12 or 13 years old, the Grand’s Island View Hotel & Casino was recently demolished. Its architecture and design were nothing special, they represented Biloxi’s casino past, before Katrina destroyed most of the area. The decision to implode this building was regarded as a step towards the city’s future: Biloxi post-Katrina.

A.J. Holloway, Biloxi Mayor, considers the news is not to be focused on the casino demolition. The real news is still to come, it is what is going to be built there to replace the Grand Island View.

According to Harrah’s employees, there is a really big project coming, but it is still too soon to unveil it. What is already known is the amount to be spent on it: $1 billion dollars.

Mayor Holloway himself threw the switch that triggered the implosion. Many residents wanted to witness the last moments of the Island View, and mostly agreed that it is part of an inevitable renewal process. The debris will be removed as soon as possible, from which the best and biggest casino in Biloxi will rise in a near future.
